HOUSTON GROUND ANGELS ONLY OPERATE IN THE GREATER HOUSTON AREA. WE ARE NOT ACTIVE IN OTHER PARTS OF TEXAS - OR IN OTHER STATES. WE ARE A SMALL GROUP, TRYING TO HELP PATIENT TRAVELLERS IN AND OUT OF HOUSTON's CRITICAL CARE MEDICAL FACILITIES.

We can only support Patients going to critical medical treatment. We regret we cannot assist LOCAL Houston patients needing transport to Dental, Optician and routine doctor appointments. Patients must ALWAYS have a back up plan – as we just cannot support the many requests received.

Our Mission

Houston Ground Angels is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization established in 2000. Its purpose is to provide complimentary ground transportation for local Houston patients and those flying in from out-of-town – getting to and from critical medical care at both local clinics and Houston’s Texas Medical Center, which includes the MD Anderson Cancer treatment center.

We ask all Patients to REGISTER – ONE TIME to provide basic key information including contact details. Houston Ground Angels driver volunteers meet patients at their homes or at public/private airports and provide a ride to or from their medical clinic or a Med Center hotel.

Transportation (we call them Missions) is provided by driver volunteers (Ground Angels) who generously gift their time, automobiles and gasoline.

Who we Are

Our volunteers are seeking to make a difference in the lives of those we meet, both travellers to our city and those living in our local community. Many of our families have been affected by serious medical treatments, and we see the strain this causes both to families and their finances .

What we do is a gift to the patient and their families. Our group has a small but dedicated administration team which co-ordinates ride activity and provides support for those needing assistance.

what we do

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people from across the country and around the world travel to Houston for care at its renowned medical centers, seeking life-saving treatment for themselves, a child, spouse, or other family member.

Many arrive alone or as a parent accompanying a young child. Unfamiliar with the city and without local contacts, they face added stress while coping with serious illness. Numerous patients must return repeatedly throughout their treatment, compounding the financial, logistical and emotional burden. Our volunteers seek to ease patients medical journey – one ride at a time.

Mounting medical bills and lost wages, the costs of airfare, lodging, meals, and local transport can become overwhelming. Studies estimate patients may spend roughly $11,000 on food, hotels, and ground travel while pursuing their critical care.

Houston Ground Angels helps ease this burden by offering volunteer drivers who provide ground transportation from airports or patients’ residences to the Texas Medical Center and other treatment facilities. When patients are ready to return home, a Ground Angel collects them and drives them either to their departing airport or back to their residence.

All rides—referred to as MISSIONS—are provided free of charge to patients.

Greetings! I wanted to express my gratitude to the magnificent community of Houston Ground Angels! Reflecting back this morning how over the last few years I have been forced to embrace my unpredicted health challenges, and how I Thank God for depositing the Angels that have blessed me with transportation to and from my medical treatments. I am a patient with a diagnosis that requires treatments at multiple Houston medical centers. Having been all consumed with accepting my health decline and pain along with insurmountable financial burdens it is so VERY comforting knowing HGA is there to offset and assist, especially since I can’t drive at this time.

Please say “Thank You” to each Angel that has accepted my missions and not only provided comforting rides, but from arrival to drop off provided great conversation and inspirational encouragement which always makes me feel like family! The mission and commitment of HGA is a jewel of a blessing!

I don’t know what I would have done without Ground Angels during my Cancer journey. The Volunteers are THE BEST!!! They were always Professional, Kind and Courteous! They would pick me up from the airport and transport me to MD Anderson Cancer Center for treatment, scans and Lab work. When I needed a ride back to the airport they were always ready to help. INFORMATION about the SPANISH WEBSITE

The Houston Ground Angels website has been translated into Spanish to help non-English speaking patients better understand how to start the complimentary travel process we call “Missions”. However, be advised our staff and office people do not speak Spanish. Please consider finding a bilingual relative, or friend who can help you if our staff contact you by phone about your ride request. You also may need help to complete the on-line forms which are all in English.
