Transportation Around Houston:

AIR travelling PATIENTS – be reminded once you are in Houston – Houston Ground Angels do not provide local rides around the medical center, nor from local hotels to medical appointments.

If you are staying at a local hotel and need transportation to any of the hospitals or facilities in the Texas Medical Center, the TMC provides a complimentary circulator shuttle service for patients, and visitors. When booking your HOTEL, ask if they have shuttle services for their guests, to get you in and out of the TMC Campus.

Also look out for the MD Anderson hospital Shuttle service available for visitors traveling between the Main Building, Mays Clinic, Hospitality Apartments, Proton Therapy Center and Radiation Outpatient Center. The shuttles operate Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MDA Shuttle also services the Mohs Clinic and Radiation Treatment Center by request; call 713-792-2338.

Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, will provide three round trip rides to appointments for those who are lodging in Houston, and need a ride to their appointments and/or treatments.  This is to help those patients staying in temporary accommodations.

Out of town visitors are encouraged to use the Metro-Rail and Bus services and investigate alternate ways to get around the Houston area.  Check out the LOCAL resources if you need to get to satellite clinics or medical offices outside the Medical Center.

Our LOCAL ride program is for those Patients who have difficulty getting to their hospital or clinic facility – to and from their residence.   Local patinets can also be helped to the many satelite hospitals around the Houston area, outside the city.

Harris County Rides, provides door-to-door transportation for local residents. Harris County Rides system takes local patients to doctor’s appointments, to buy groceries, wherever they need to go. Here is the link, Rides Home (harriscountytx.gov)

Between the Texas Medical Center and Downtown you might like to take a ride on the METRO Transit light rail – trains run every 10 minutes or so and cost is around $1.50 per person for 3 hours – sufficient to get into downtown, eat, wander and get back to your destination.  Ask at your hotel shuttle service to get you to your closest METRO transit stop. 

METROLIFT, also part of METRO Transit offers curb-to-curb transportation across the city for physically disabled patients.

Also, for those who need transportation in and around Houston, the city METRO Transit bus/rail service can get you to both main airports and in and out of the City. The best way to find service to and from Bush International Airport and Hobby airports is to use Google Maps on your phone which will inform when and where to catch the bus services. EXPRESS BUS SERVICES - Bush Airport to/FROM downtown houston

Did you know there are TWO – IAH BUSH Express bus services ( 500 and 102 ) that provides frequent services to and from IAH BUSH Terminal C ?  Bus 500 has just two stops IAH and DOWNTOWN and costs $4.50 each way. Bus 102 has more stops and costs $1.25 each way.  Both services are to and from Downtown where you can make connections to the Metro-Rail services – which go to the Medical Center.  Both services run every 30 minutes in both directions from 5am to 2am (and every 15 minutes during peak time – ( 7am to 7pm ). From the Downtown Transit Center a short ride on the downtown MetroRail (Red Line) takes you to the Texas Medical Center. Depending on your (Hotel or Clinic) target address you may have a 10 -15 minute walk or ride to your destination. You should allow around 60 minutes for the Route 500 service and 90 minutes for the Route 102 journey.    Download the Houston Metro APP for real time schedules and updates. www.ridemetro.org 

Taxi Services

Approximate cost from MD Anderson to Bush Intercontinental Airport is approximately $60-$90 and to Hobby Airport, $40-$50, but please call for prices first as they often change.

LYFT and UBER

LYFT and UBER both provide ride services all across the Houston area including to all the airports.  Get their applications onto your smart Phone and create an account. You can see your ride on the map as it gets close. 

Fort Bend Public Transportation (Sugar Land, Richmond, part of Katy, Texas)
Fort Bend County has their own transportation, and they have buses that go to the Texas Medical Center. They also have buses to take folks from their hotels to different medical facilities in Sugar Land and part of Katy, Texas that is in Fort Bend County.
