Provide a Ride Program

IMPORTANT
ALL VISITORS PLEASE NOTE.

HOUSTON GROUND ANGELS ONLY OPERATE IN THE GREATER HOUSTON AREA. WE ARE NOT ACTIVE IN OTHER PARTS OF TEXAS - OR IN OTHER STATES. WE ARE A SMALL GROUP, TRYING TO HELP PATIENT TRAVELLERS IN AND OUT OF HOUSTON's CRITICAL CARE MEDICAL FACILITIES.

Houston Ground Angels resolve to be there whenever possible with a volunteer (Ground Angels) to give you (the Patient) or your family member a safe and compassionate ride to your medical treatment.

The HGA team call upon a network of volunteer drivers (Ground Angels) who drive their own automobile, paying for their fuel and all other related expenses.

And Remember!

There are NO costs of any kind for a HGA mission – neither to the patient or the patient’s family. We call each ride a mission.

PLEASE READ the Patient Responsibilties page for important information.

The Patient Profile form here is for our internal use. We rely on grants from corporations, foundations, and philanthropic organizations to support and fund our expenses. Your information is used to create demographics which enable HGA to make funding applications. Please support us with your information to help us secure funding – we appreciate it.

Note: Each leg of your trip is a separate mission and will in most likelihood have a different Ground Angel driver.

Houston Ground Angels has a high success rate for missions being served by our volunteers. However, please be reminded we are a volunteer network, and cannot guarantee that either leg of your mission will be accepted by a volunteer.

Always have a back up plan for your ride, in case we cannot match a volunteer Ground Angel with your needs.

There are two mission request forms – LOCAL for residents of the Greater Houston Metropolitain Area, and AIRPORT for those out of town travellers needing to go to or from a Houston airport.

AIRPORT means pick up or drop at one of the Houston area airports.

LOCAL means a Houston resident that needs to get to or from their treatment clinic or hospital

We transport LOCAL Patients to and from their treatment clinics, picking up at their homes.

NOTE: The Amtrak train station and Downtown (Bus) TRANSIT Center are also on our AIRPORT drop and pick up list.

Using our on-line system you can request an AIRPORT or LOCAL ride into or outbound from the Medical Center. There are medical clinics all around the City that patients have to get to.

We do NOT carry patients from their local hotels to Medical appointments. Please see under Patient-RESOURCES for options for local transportation.

When traveling, please consider the time and day. On special days during the year, such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years there are fewer drivers available, so please plan accordingly. Our volunteers try to accommodate all patients’ travel times and understand that patients need to travel at specific times. However, we ask patients to consider the effects of holidays in their planning.

Houston’s rush hour traffic can double or triple the amount of volunteer time needed to provide transportation for a patient. Rush hour in Houston is between 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please consider travel times outside of these rush hours if you can.

After review by one of our staff, your mission will be posted onto our secure website. Only staff and our volunteer drivers can view the key mission details. Once posted on our secure site one of our Ground Angels can then accept the mission request. The volunteer Ground Angel contacts the patient directly and exchanges their information. The volunteer is then your contact person for this leg of your trip.

All of our volunteer drivers undergo a background check. You will meet some of Houston’s finest people. Our volunteers are there for you – making sure the transportation to and from your destination is safe, convenient, and pleasant !

Houston Ground Angels need your stories and photographs. Please consider creating a FACEBOOK post telling us about your experiences.
