Wall of honor

Broh ( Pete ) Peterson
First President
Originally an offshoot of the volunteer pilots’ group, Pete assisted in the set up and incorporation of the HGA group. He personally ran over fifty missions and contacted all volunteers daily by phone to encourage their taking ride requests.

Kathy Broussard
Founder
As a pilot for Angel Flights, Kathy found that many patients could not afford road transportation from the distant airports to their medical appointments. She set out to change that and through her hard work Houston Ground Angels was born.

Mary
retired Mission Administrator
Mary Hutto, retired teacher and a champion volunteer ran more than 350 missions. Mary then became our principal Mission Administrator taking and receiving calls from patients and volunteers. In 2021, Mary retired a second time, having served HGA for more than fourteen years.

bo HUNTER
Air Force Vet Bo originally aided patients providing over 260 angel flights as a pilot. Joining HGA when we were first organized, he has driven over 125 missions whilst actively promoting HGA across the Baytown area. Bo has recruited many new volunteers to our group.

Dave LaFargue
Dave – military Vet and previously an Angel pilot has run over 220 road missions. He also has served on the Board for six years ceaselessly promoting HGA across the Humble/ Kingwood area. Recently he has thrilled patients (those with minimal bags) with a ride in his Chevy Corvette.

Charles Whitworth
Charles is our all-time longest serving volunteer driver having completed 2315 Missions. He first volunteered for HGA in 2008 and still going strong in 2025. Now retired from volunteering, we salute a truly formidable supporter of our “provide a ride” group.

Tony Castiglie
Vice president
Tony has been a backbone member from our beginning. Our group would not be what we are today without his behind-the-scenes determination and leadership. He has been a Board member for 22 years and served as the “business manager” and Treasurer for most of those years. Tony passed in November 2024.

Dick Stabell
Driver of the Year
2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024
Joining our group in just 2017, Dick has provided over 400 rides in 2021, over 525 in 2022, over 800 in 2023 and over 620 in 2024. An AWESOME volunteer – we estimate a total of more than two thousand five hundred families have been touched by Dick’s volunteering for Houston Ground Angels.

Sandra Begalke
Sandra is a top volunteer having completed over 1480 missions since 2014. She joined our Board in 2020, and applied her skills and business experience to overhaul and streamline our processes for the growth we see today.

Rebecca Maitland
Rebecca Mailand is the current Executive Director and Mission Coordinator, and has been with the organization since 2015. She is the one person who regularly interacts with Volunteers, Patients and Board Members. In addition to scheduling missions, she also writes the Newsletter, plans and organizes our Social events and acknowledges contributions from donors. She also assists in grant writing. Rebecca is reliable, dependable, dedicated and committed. She is the Energizer Bunny of Houston Ground Angels – she keeps on going and going and going.

Derek King
Derek began as a volunteer, driving for Ground Angels in 2008, joining the Board in 2019. Noting our 20-year-old website and mission management system needed renovations, he volunteered to make this happen. Derek went to work as our webmaster and has spent an untold number of hours over the years, seeking to improve every aspect of it. Without Derek, HGA would be in the dark without a modern website or mission system.
